We love spending an afternoon at an art museum. We enjoy catching the latest blockbuster. We are inspired by attending a lecture. We are obsessed with LOST. Last year we welled up listening to the Minnesota Orchestra perform live; we also pumped our fists to The New Pornographers at a club in Chicago. As much as we enjoy any individual gallery, movie, book, public space, or concert, we are really energized by talking about them with friends and family. We feel quality works of culture are still being created and should be discussed, even championed, at a time in which pop culture is often viewed as merely low-brow, disposable escapism. This blog is our attempt to start more conversations as we interact with how the human condition is expressed through both Bach and Batman.
About the blog-runners:
Dana and Drew met, fell in love, and now have a wonderful daughter, Maren.
Dana has a B.A. in English Literature & Writing and loves working as a freelance writer & editor. She enjoys reading classic fiction, going for walks, Lutheran liturgy, Presbyterian teaching, green things, trying new foods (cooking and eating), red wine, olives, crossword puzzles, laughing at the genius of Tina Fey (30 Rock – check it out!) and Jon Stewart, finding mistakes in printed literature, and any lively discussion (be it about pacifiers or politics). Currently she spends most of her time kissing baby fingers and toes, and trying to figure out the story behind the Oceanic 6.
Drew has a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Film Studies. Besides being a pop culture geek, some of his other interests include: nice pens, good beer and homemade food, skunky cheese, history, politics, satire, theology, pacifism, bad puns, travel, loose-leaf tea, road-trips, swimming in the Great Lakes, discgolf, biking, Tae Bo (it works!), watching hockey and outdoor baseball, lively discussions, being with dear friends and family, laughing at inappropriate times, playing guitar, writing 1 song every 4 years, reading slowly, experiencing live performance of music and theater, testing baby gear and remaining weak-in-the-knees whenever he is with or even thinks about his wife.
pacifiers: nuk or mam
politics: “ron paul will save our government” -jack foley

Hi, Drew and Dana. Someone just sent me a link to your blog, thinking you might be interested in writing for an online magazine I edit. If so, let me know and I can get you more details. There’s a quick deadline coming up, in fact, on an issue about the relationship between pop and ‘high’ culture that you might already have something written for, judging from the tone of your collective bios.
Peace,
Kirstin
