Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog!

Joss Whedon, creator of the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, has created a one-time internet show for your enjoyment. He has a knack for blending diverse genres into something fresh and new, but I think he may have topped himself this time: a first-person-supervillain-musical-video blog. It may be a bit quirky for some, but I love this stuff. He is just a clever man. Too bad there will only be three acts. (Check out the prematurely canceled Firefly on DVD to witness Whedon at his genre-bending finest!)

****Update: According to a letter from Joss found here “All acts will stay up until midnight Sunday July 20th. Then they will vanish into the night, like a phantom.”  So to enjoy long term, iTunes has a minimal fee for all three acts. Or you could wait for the DVD Joss hints at in the letter. The repeat-watch chuckle ratio is very high with this first episode already, so I may have to make that iTunes purchase. And I can feel good about it too since Whedon, who funded the project with his own money, is hoping to use the money from iTunes and DVD sales to actually pay the cast and crew!

It was shiny! Joss has a knack for writing musicals. This was his second attempt the first was a Buffy episode (season 6) “Once more with Feeling” which was being replayed in theaters across the country with fans singing the part much like the Rocky Horror Show until Fox put an end to it (hiss) by no longer allowing their television shows to be replayed in theaters. Its still hard to believe that Joss is working with Fox again on Dollhouse. But Dr. Horrible was hysterical – Harris was perfect for the role. Of course I can always watch Nathan Fillion (Cpt. Tightpants), except maybe on Desperate Housewives.

I think we’ll be checking out Buffy soon—thanks in large part to your recommendation, Jerry! Not that Joss’ work needs much selling 🙂 Anyway, I look forward to the season 6 musical episode!! Say “hi” to Janelle for me.
